Baldock town enhancement

This is the work taking place for the Baldock town enhancement. From what I can see so far this has entailed replacement of tarmac with expensive looking slabs and widened the footpaths somewhat. Apparently this will entice citizens to stop and admire the view instead of walking on by. Problem is, there's no decent view to see other than the church at the north end but is hidden by all the run down take-aways built on the end of the town hall!

I really can't understand why they needed to completely close the high street, and the temporary traffic lights are timed so bad that there was even a big queue of cars on a quiet Sunday afternoon.
